The Volvo S80 is seen as a direct competitor to BMW's 5 series, Audi's A6 and Mercedes CD320 class of vehicles in the executive market. Whilst some talk of quality, you wont actually fault the Volvo S80 in terms of quality or quantity of standard features, carrying on in its Swedish manner of simplicity and minimalistic design. It has a very loyal following, being supplied to many councils to be run as mayoral cars, supplied in quantity to particular chauffeur service companies throughout Britain and by discerning private customers who enjoy luxury of space and comfort to travel in. the well equipped SE range right through to the Executive at the top of the range which offers a vast range of equipment as standard including electrically heated memory controlled seating with massage function and ventilation, rear heated seating, electronically controlled climate control system, walnut trim, keyless entry and drive, premium sound multimedia system, rear sound system with two sound sockets, rear window sun curtain, multi air bags including curtain bags front and rear all as standard
There are petrol and diesel engine options from the 1.6TD to the D5 215bhp and the T6 All wheel drive 304BHP versions. There are four manual and automatic gearbox options available, all with 6 speeds. They tend to be held onto by owners and drivers alike, and snapped up quickly when they do come up for sale. there are a few V8 engined version about (like the image above), but these are very rare in the UK as most found their way to the American market. Most are D5 Geartronic models which found favour with markets in the UK. Shown to the right is the latest facelifted version as of 2013, which offers less CO2 with fuel economy gains in certain engine and geartronic combinations.
